the grand budapest hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) Poster

It'd been so long since we last met as I was caught up in a whirlpool of assignments and examinations, I had absolutely no social life for the longest time. I could finally catch my breather and hang out with my happy pill, even if it was a short date. I've been hearing about the movie title from the longest time from people around me who have caught the title. So, when the friend mentioned about catching the movie, I was all hands for it. We struggled a little with the movie title when we were buying tickets but finally figured that sounding confident was the way to go. (hahaha)

Watching a film set in the 1960s at GV Katong seems like the most apt place to be. The Grand Budapest is a British-German comedy set in the early days. And as its very title suggest, it tells the history and story of the hotel. A very refreshing take and unconventional filming techniques compared to mainstream movies. I really enjoyed the how indirect the film was and it kind of reminded me of the movie "a series of unfortunate events".

We decided to go for a quick munch after movies and so we strolled down the streets of Katong, looking for a nice place to have some snacks and drinks. Eventually, we ended up at Chin Mee Chin. The old retro coffeeshop that was so complimenting with the 18th century ambience we were so absorbed in the entire afternoon, we had to eat in there. I only had a teh and I thought it was quite adhering to my taste buds. I would love to go back for some pastries the next time.

wolverine

Choice 1: Go to class
Choice 2: Free movie with e rest of e dept

Was super torn between 2 equally lucrative choices and I eventually found a way to have the best of both worlds. WOHOO! Lecturer very kindly tried to finish up his revision lecture before I had to go. So super touched. And then I went to meet the rest of them at Vivocity.

It was a corporate event organised by NSN. And more than just for the movie, I really wanted to find out how corporate events are like, just for the exposure. Imagine my amazement when I stepped into the theatres and realised that the whole cinema was filled with people in business attire. Quite the contrary from usual sight of couples and teenagers. Hahaha. We got 'C' seats which I happily thought was the last third row from the back. But well, this is GV so we are in fact sitting at the third row from the FRONT. Hmmm. Good thing for being small, my neck only had to tilt to a lesser extent. Hee!

3D movies are not exactly my favourite because the ends of the glasses tend to poke out and when i lean back on my seat, the glasses springs run out. How annoying! The effects were alright. Wished the storyline was a little better.

After that, we made our way to St James where the dinner was held. Buffet and free flow of alcohol. Lots of PR at work, awkwardness too. Hahaha.

In any case, we left quite soon after the adults PR-ed with the guys who invited us bcos it got quite boring. The place was too small to feel comfortable. Ha. And then we went crystal jade for mini dept dinner. They are all so motherly in so many ways, I actually feel like a kid with them. Plus, I got a ride back home while the rest of them cabbed.

Life's good :)

movie night

Totally feels like a Friday, watching movie, gg bowling n everything, but it's actually Thursday. While waiting for our movie to start, there's isnt much things u can do at downtown east. Plus there werent enough time for us to go back home either way. So, we decided to make use of the free bowling game vouchers from extending our membership with Nebo and throw some balls. Been quite a while since he/i/we last bowled. So it was kind of therapeutic to see the ball crashing into the 10 pins and then the collapsing noise.Plus bf is so stressed with schoolwork, he deserves some stress relieving moment.

Our idea of having a dayout like tat is supposed to be us watching some comedy/bimbotic/chick flick kind of films. But we didnt make it for the GF/BF session and had to catch Taken 2 instead. I tell you, it's the best coincidence that happened! Too good! We were just sitting at the edge of the cinema seat, so tensed up from the action and suspense. Thumbs up! And we didnt even catch Taken 1 before that but the lack of details while watching the sequel werent of any bother. So gonna watch Taken one of these days!

TGIF! :)
