work-school-life balance

I wasn't not born with a silver spoon, in fact, financially I'm am surely more independent than a lot people out there. But never have I ever felt that I was really short-changed in life. There are times where I struggled, times where I wished I was somewhere else, but at the end of the day, I still feel like I'm blessed in so many ways.

Today, in the office, I handed over the Music Store that I was in charge of to another department due to the re-operation. That was kind of bitter-sweet. It's like saying goodbye to the kid that I've looked after for almost 8 months ='(

In the second meeting I had in the afternoon, it was a supposedly handover to me to take on additional portfolio. But having gone through all the job scopes and daily tasks, my boss flatly said no because it would drown me out. Which boss would do that?

So, at the end of the day, I still acquire the same pay, with lesser tasks and a boss that understands my pain and accommodates my school schedule.

Life's good I would say :)

date (sorta)

Journey to the west yet again.
I think I must learn endure a 2-hour train ride because my butt gets so numb by the time I reach the West.
Just a short visit to keep us sane.
Which means I travelled 2 hours to and fro just to have dinner with him.
And.. a movie :p

tech-geek

It's holidays! Of cos it means catching up on series online and try to finish them in as few days as possible. But internet was super not co-operative today and it's such a nuisance! Imagine trying to catch your drama but it means waiting for 10 second after every 2 second you've watched. That is nuts and it drives me crazy. It was equally ytd I totally gave up after 15 minutes. But today it's not working properly either. So bad, I had to go to the living room just so that I could tap on my neighbour's network. Despite the distance, it was tons faster. (btw we have a really amicable with my neighbour!). Since her network is working, it probably means that it's the network in the block that is causing it. But then again, we are really sure that the bill was paid already.

So in a fit of frustration, we decided to call StarHub CS at almost midnight (they work 24/7). The call got through after a short wait and we were served by a man. Well he did give some good instructions on how to find out your internet speed though.

You can check out your internet speed @
 http://utilities.starhub.com/conexon/en/UtilitiesStartFrame.jsp

Just do it a few times to find out the average and then go tally it with the speed that your plan promises you. So now you know whether you've been short-changed!

Good tip! But eventually he didn't give no head or tail about what's causing the slow internet speed. But nevertheless, after the call, the internet worked. Hmmm... Who knows?!

bdays & joy of life

So thankful to the inventor of "birthday", because it makes us set aside our time and schedule to meet up with people we care about. People whom we might be so familiar with, it's easy to neglect them in our day to day life.

So today is the celebration of birthday boy, Cedric! (belated or not, it's the thoughts that counts!)

But because everybody else are busy studying for exams, I have no choice but to be birthday card in-charge despite the absolute lack of artistic flair in me, sadly to say. But I guess I made a commendable attempt this time (usually I would just print it out! =x). Looks pretty decent eh!

So we settled for a zi-char dinner- absolute homely touch, near our place. It was alright but I think not as satisfying as the one we had the previous time. And then we went central to have our cake session- my favourite part. I LOVE LOVE to eat cakes. #yums

And after circling the entire area and malls for a perfect cake-eating place, we ended up at our Bakerzine. The cakes look absolutely tantalising! We ordered a black forest, chocolate and a berry cheesecake. They were all yummy and fantastic in their own ways but to pick/eat the right combination of cakes takes some trial and error. Some flavours just don't mix. But good thing, our choices werent too bad.

We eventually came out with the best way/order to savour the cakes to get maximum pleasure in our taste buds. Starting from:
1. Black Forest- the creaminess and thick chocolate mousse was simply sweet indulgence
2. Chocolate cake- the cake has layers of sponge cake which makes it much lighter and fluffier than the black forest.
3. Berry Cake- The mousse makes it look as thought it would be too creamy and makes you sick after a while. But it's really the exact opposite. Ultimate lightness and fluffiness, it's refreshing to the mouth. And after all the chocolate, it's feels especially yummy.

So that marks the end of our celebration, with our friend, Joel, attempting his version of Gwiyomi.

bookshelves and such

It has been a while since I've stepped foot into a library for leisure.
At least 3 months for that matter.
I missed that musty book smell and the sound from pages flipping
:)

Look at how the boy went from stressing over his notes to picking up the book I've picked.
Chick flick stories do wonder.
There's an inner bitchy-ness in him =S

YAY! Lesisure reading time! :)

PRSSCO

Stepping foot into the place you were once so familiar with brought back tons of memories. There's not a single junior down there on the floor that I know after since I've already graduated for 6 years. But it's the feeling of togetherness and comradeship that remains unforgettable. Just sitting there by the side, listening to the tunes that I don't even know brought calmness to my soul. It's peaceful somehow, despite the loud thumping from the percussion or suonas. Catching up with seniors and graduated juniors and the teachers made me so nostalgic and I feel even older than before.

I swear I had the urge to bring down my liuqin from the top of my cupboard just to strum some strings. In fact, I haven done that for the past 3 years at least. Wonder if my fingers still can work some magic?

It'd been an amazing day. Thank you for reminding me how I became who I am today.
To all my juniors, please play your hearts out tomorrow and enjoy the same togetherness that I felt.
All the best at SYF :)

School's OUT!

Hello there, TERM BREAK!

It's one of those rare times where the words "Time's up. Pen's down" sound so melodious. After busy scribbling for the past 2 hours and trying to battle the aircon that was on full blast, we had just finished the LAST paper of the semester. Having said that, we've survived one semester! It's just surreal how I've only started university life 3 months ago, and here I am, having accomplished and conquered 3 modules and forged a lot more friendship that I never thought I would. This, is the magic of school life. How you thought you will never have any friends, and then at the end of it you just prove yourself wrong :)

To celebrate the end of exams, majority of my classmates decided to chill out a bit. And having your school situated near town area, it's just so convenient. Made our way to Jigger & Pony which was located at amoy street. My first time there!

Stepping into the place, we were greeted by friendly service crews who were ever so attentive. Further ascertained by the speed they refilled our chips throughout our time there. It was a cosy little place with nice music and dim orange light. There were about 9 of us, so being able to find seats was quite lucky. Probably, the fact that it was a Wed night.

We ordered a punch bowl- Satan's bowl to share. It was an alcoholic drink with a punch of citrus. Quite yummy. And we ordered many of its sides to share. Not a major fan of steak so didn't try the steak sandwich. But I did try the Baked Mustard Chicken which was SO GOOD, I couldn't resist taking more than just a few mouthful. It was really flavourful and it comes in friendly bite sizes. No un-glam-ness at all! The mushroom crepe I thought was slightly too light. I initially thought it would those creamy mushroom with the strong cream taste. But it turns out that it was a little dry with a stronger fungi taste.

But all was good. We had good laughs, good food, good fun. More fun times to come! :))

mugging episode 2

Westside story 2 begins again and I feel so terribly bad to have to impose on his roomie again =X. Good thing he's kind of alright with it. And so, the routine begins again. It's quite effective and bearable for me since  it's only for a few days. But they do it every single day, I'm in awe.

But it's nice how in the middle of the night when you get hungry and walk to the pantry to cook noodles and then you meet people you know and start making small chats.

That's the end of my westside story. So gg to miss the cheap food, pretty library and all.
using his slippers as my floor mat
 empty library at 7-ish pm
le boy trying to terrorize me with his water bottle
gg crazy from overdose of mugging and wanting to wear my owl necklance and insisting that it's nice on him. *kuku*

total roomie love! Wearing the same shirt colour without any arrangement.
#roomielove #telepathy

 cheap and tasty lunch!
chicken cutlet rice @$2.80 only. So missing this now!

study/movie/dinner date

Yay! That marks the end of my second paper. Just one more to go! Had lunch with the bulk of the classmates @soup spoon because the Q at Tim Ho Wan was too INSANE! And while everyone else went home to relax or some sort, I was gg to start mugging all over again :( But I guess that's the only thing you can do with a bf who's busy with upcoming exams too. Well, surely study date is another kind of dating too. #optimistic

But at least I didn't have to wake up early to 'chope' place at the national library. All I had to do was walk in and TADAH! iIhad a seat all ready for me. Slightly inconsiderate but I guess it's kind of a Singapore culture. Waking up early> 'chope' seat> hog for hours. Plus the weather is so incredibly hot, mugging in an air-con-ed place is a MUST. And I must say national library's study lounge at level 5 is SO SO nice. There's a nice view, food and drinks are allowed is so thoughtful plus there had vending machines for both food and drinks in the room itself. There's even recycling bins inside which I think is pretty clever. You know how when people are studying they jot things down on rough paper that they will eventually discard. Now they have just the right place to dump them, and play a part in being environmentally all at once! Good move.

Well, studying becomes a lot more efficient when you know there are perks at the end of it. Had a good dinner at Carly T's, ultilising the Groupon deal that le boy bought for us. It's quite a deal really- $8 for $20 worth of food & drinks. The service crew was friendly and smiley, even explaining some of the dishes and what they are. You know how at times western dishes like to have a lot of fanciful names which you can barely make out of. Ordered a burger that came with corn chips as sides and a quarter chicken with 2 sides- mac&cheese and butter garlic rice. Well, I must say mac & cheese from Kenny Roger beats hands down, no others can dispute that fact. I would recommend that if you ever eat at Carly's, avoid mac and cheese, but the garlic rice is not so bad, could be a little more flavour though. The burger tasted LIKE pizza. 100%. Good thing if you love pizza, if not then do give it a miss. But their speciality was the chicken and i tell you it's a MUST-TRY! The meat was so tender and juicy, with its skin crisps. I would certainly go back again just for the chicken! A little advice- the food portion is a little small (even for me).

And perk no. 2- movie! Caught Oblivion starring Tom Cruise. He's unbelievable hot despite his age i must say. It's an interesting sci-fi movie, effects and actions were good. But the ending is abit of a ...

the cutleries are so cute
interesting campaign at lvl 5's toilet.

ridiculous day @work

Took half day off at work to get ready for exams tmr and tmr tmr. And found the most convenient place to study with water, vending machine, toilet, good lightning and ample of seats- office's pantry! What's more there level 3,4 & 5 to choose from. Since i work on level 5, I decided to head down to level 4 instead. Imagine while studying you keep meeting people you know and having to make small talks. Too distracting!

Level 4 was nice. The only problem is the tv was so near, I kept wanting to watch it. Even though it was a horror movie and I never liked watching horror movies, I couldn't help it. I guess anything is more entertaining than your notes. But after the movie ended, it was a little more conducive. Haha.

Plus I met this guy who walked over to make small talks with me even though it was obvious that I was totally plugged in and sucked into my world of Swift, Lavine and Clarkson. And at the end of the talk he asked for my number. It was a ridiculously funny sight. And I am so convinced that I must not have a bf whom I met from work. Imagine my love story- oh i met him from work where he came over and asked if i wanted some sushi. NOOOO! Not happening!

Okay. Back to mugging. Good luck to myself for tmr's paper :)

mugging episode 1

And so, my westside journey begins. Spent the past few days in the concentration camp to mug for upcoming exams have proved to be quite fruitful. I guess it's the only place possible where you could mug for up to 10 hours a day. Pretty incredible. I'd probably only complete 10 hours of studying in a week at home. The daily routine is simple: wake up at close to noon > lunch > library > dinner @almost 8 > more mugging till 3-4am. The cycle begins. Of cos i get to sleep more than the two roomies cos I had no lessons to attend. So, this is uni life =O

But certainly, there are some are some perks and joy of a student. Was heading back to hall with le boy and somehow ended up helping his friends packing the hall's welfare pack. Looking at all the different goodies from different sponsors spread out all across the entire room like a messed-up place after destruction. And then the packing begins, like millions of factory workers at work. Of cos i was exaggerating, there were only slightly more than 10 pairs of hands. And by the time we were done, more than an hour has passed. I guess this is the kind of entertainment and bonding with friends you get with while staying in school. Not forgetting all the extra goodies that we happily 'kop' back to our rooms :)

Certainly missing school life like that. All the times where I stayed back in school to help out with anything but schoolwork- painting banners, packing co room, doing up the co notice board, planning event... It's endless and i wish i still had time to afford to do such things. #feelingold

Oh well, there marks the end of the westside story. 3 exam papers ahead of me. Go go go!

seeing him first thing every morning is kinda blissful

happiness in times of unhappiness

Brought 3 packets of tissue thinking that it would last for me at least 3 days. It's barely a day, and they're ALL GONE! Seriously falling sick less than a week away from exams isn't exactly the best time.

Many thanks to a kind soul who went the mile to get these before coming over to find me after his lessons.

letting go of the past

Sometimes, we need things to happen before we realise that what we had thought was a still a landmine of ours has actually detonated on its own through the years.

Looking at your pictures, it was heartfelt gladness to know that you've found your happiness. Truth is, whatever happened those years ago had become such a blurred memory, it really didn't matter who's fault it was and neither is there any meaning left in finding out what had really happened.

This time, i know that i've finally put it all down.
There's a closure to us. Kind of.
And i think im ready to say hi if i ever met u again
